WFDB President Avi Paz sends condolences to Bharat Diamond Bourse following terror attacks in Mumbai
July 14, 2011: Following a series of bomb attacks on July 13th in Mumbai, one of them right next to central Mumbai's diamond trading quarter, Avi Paz sent condolences on behalf of the WFDB to Anoop Mehta, President of the Bharat Diamond Bourse in Mumbai, India.
"We were shocked to hear about the terrorist bombing attacks that hit Mumbai yesterday that claimed the lives of so many innocent people, some of them members of the diamond business community in Mumbai. On behalf of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses and its affiliated member bourses, I extend our organization's sincere condolences to the families of the victims and send our best wishes for speedy recovery to the wounded,” Paz wrote.
One of the bomb attacks took place in the diamond trading area of central Mumbai, between Panchratna and Prashad Chambers. Some seven diamond industry members were reported dead and many more injured.
The WFDB president suggested to Mehta not hesitate to ask the WFDB for any assistance it could offer "As you know, the international diamond business community is always ready to offer assistance in times of difficulty and this may be such a moment."
In the past, the WFDB has raised funds for communities that were stricken by disaster, as in the case of Sri Lanka after the island was hit by a tsunami in the winter of 2004.
