The Board members are Dieter Hahn, Govind Jain, Vinay Kothari, Hans Dieter Krieger, Dominik Kulsen, Frank Mayer, Gerd Meng, Bernd Mildenberger, Wolfgang Schmauch and Kurt Ziemer.

Panama President Inaugurates New Jewelry Center, Diamond Exchange

The World Jewelry Hub (WJH), the first dedicated diamond, colored gemstone and jewelry trading center in Latin America, was officially inaugurated on April 28 by Panama's head of state, President Juan Carlos Varela, government representatives, industry leaders and more than 350 members of the business from the region and around the world.

The ceremony was held in the first phase building of the $200 million WJH complex, which is designed specifically to serve as the primary business center for the trade in Mexico, South America, Central America and the Caribbean, and the access point to the region for suppliers and buyers around the world.

IDE Celebrates Israel's Independence Day in Style

The Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE) played its part in celebrating Israel's 67th year of independence with the numbers appearing on the Diamond Tower, one of the bourse's four buildings.

Israel's Independence Day took place on April 23 and is a national holiday.

Israel Opens International Rough Diamond Week

The Israel Diamond Exchange's (IDE) second International Rough Diamond Week kicked off on Sunday, April 12. IDE President Shmuel Schnitzer opened the event, with IDE Vice President and Rough Committee Chairman Arnon Yuval and Diamond Controller Shmuel Mordechai also taking part.

IDE Director General Moti Besser was also in attendance and there was a large turnout of IDE members.

At the DDCA, we understand that the local Australian diamond dealer has to deal with trade shows, RAPNET, IDEX, international dealer's websites, and the odd merchant flying in from overseas to sell goods below prices that local merchants can afford to match.

The question is what can, and does, the local diamond dealer provide that these competitors cannot, and what can we do as a club to protect this local interest? It's important to note that we accept that it is a free market and we don’t begrudge anyone of our members or non-members from searching out legitimate goods with full KP compliance from wherever suits them, and at competitive prices.

What we had to confront in Australia (which only accounts for about 1% of total world diamond sales of polished) is how does the local industry deal with these issues?
