The cafés along the Pelikaanstraat in Antwerp in the early 1920’s were generally reserved for the diamond trade. Some of these were de facto diamond clubs with all the amenities, including arbitration rooms.
The most famous of these cafés was the Springer at 68 Pelikaanstraat. In theory the public could come in but it was really just for diamond people. It was here that the Vrije Diamanthandel was founded on december 30, 1928.
