DEIO
The Diamond and Gemstone Bourse Idar-Oberstein e.V. (DEIO) was opened in 1974 as the world’s first exchange for both diamonds and colored gemstones. It is run in the legal form of a registered association and serves as an international trading platform and lobby for its members.
As early as 1975, DEIO was unanimously accepted into the WFDB (World Federation of Diamond Bourses), to which 30 bourses around the globe now belong. Through its membership, DEIO and thus indirectly its members are bound by the statutes of the world federation. For example, the DEIO arbitrates and adjudicates in disputes between its members and informs the secretariat in Antwerp, which informs all WFDB-affiliated bourses and their members.
The focus of DEIO is on colored gemstones, which traditionally account for around 90 percent of the businesses in the Idar-Oberstein region.
