WFDB Vice President Ernest Blom issues categorical denial over claims of trading in rough diamonds from Zimbabwe's Marange deposits

December 14, 2010: World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) President Avi Paz has moved to clarify claims published on WikiLeaks that WFDB Vice President Ernest Blom dealt in rough diamonds from Chiadzwa in the Marange area of Zimbabwe. The claims were made in a cable sent in November 2008 by James McGee, the US ambassador to Zimbabwe, in which he quoted a third party, Andrew Cranswick, as making the accusations against Blom.

Bourse elections held at Diamond Dealers Club of Australia

November 17, 2010: The Diamond Dealers Club of Australia (DDCA) held its annual bourse elections on November 11, electing Rami Baron as president, Adam Selikman as vice president and Robert Haddad as secretary.

Singapore bourse installs new president and executive committee

November 3, 2010: The Diamond Exchange of Singapore (DES) has elected Suresh Hathiramani its new president for a term of two years at the bourse's Annual General Meeting on October 26. The DES outgoing president, Yee Heng Chiong, was appointed to the position of vice president.

The new Bharat Diamond Bourse premises unveiled in Mumbai, India

October 20, 2010: The new buildings of India's Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) were unveiled on Sunday, October 17, in the country’s financial capital Mumbai, more than two decades after the idea for a diamond exchange business centre was first proposed, and more than 15 years after the first stone for the project had been laid.

WFDB mourns the death of Yitzhak Forem, WFDB president 1998-2000

September 1, 2010: The World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) is mourning the death of former president Yitzchak Forem, who passed away on September 1 after a prolonged illness.

Mr. Forem served as president of the Israel Diamond Exchange between 1993 and 1998, and as WFDB president from 1998 to 2000.

WFDB greets agreement on Zimbabwe diamond exports as a convincing victory for the Kimberley Process

July 18, 2010: The World Federation of Diamond Bourses has welcomed the agreement reached by the Kimberley Process on Thursday, calling it “a convincing victory for the Kimberley Process.” The agreement, which was finalised in St. Petersburg, during the 7th Annual Meeting of the World Diamond Council,will enable to Zimbabwe to carry out supervised exports of diamonds from its Marange deposit in the east of the country.

WFDB concludes 34th World Diamond Congress, urges responsible trading practices following global crisis

JULY 13, 2010: The World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) has concluded its meetings at the 34th World Diamond Congress in Moscow, calling on the industry to internalise the lessons learned during the global financial crisis of the past 18 months, during which time diamond dealers reduced significantly the volume of goods being sold on consignment and also cut the standard periods for which terms of credit are extended.
