Don't Stand Still

September 7, 2011: So, what are the big topics in the diamond industry today? Some of you may have heard of the RJC - Responsible Jewellery Council. This is an organisation which is well funded by some of the big diamond producers looking to set a whole new standard of accreditation in the diamond industry. Although a number of high profile businesses have signed up to become accredited, it is a costly, seemingly complex and time consuming task.

September 5, 2011: The Tokyo Diamond Exchange Inc. announced the Board of Directors as of July 2011, naming Hidetaka Kato as Honorary Dean, Michio Iwasaki as President and Nobuhiro Imanishi as Vice President.

Bourse elections held at Diamond Federation of Hong Kong

August 29, 2011: The Diamond Federation of Hong Kong, China Limited announced the Executive Committee for 2011 through 2013, naming LEUNG, Sik Wah as honorary life president, MA, Y.Y. Lawrence as president and CHOW, W.S. Winston as Chairman. Other appointments include:

WFDB mourns the death of diamond broker Gerald Rothschild

August 16, 2011: The World Federation of Diamond Bourses has paid tribute to Gerald Rothschild, who has died in Germany at age 86. Mr. Rothschild was a veteran DTC diamond broker, who served as managing director at I. Hennig & Co., and in 1995 set up his own brokerage office.

Newly elected president Yair Sahar completes make up of IDE board

July 18, 2011: With the elections at the Israel Diamond Exchange held earlier this month, newly elected IDE president Yair Sahar appointed five vice presidents and at the same time delegated the president's responsibilities.

Bourse elections held at Antwerpsche Diamantkring CVBA

July 18, 2011: The Antwerpsche Diamantkring CVBA held its bourse elections during the annual General Meeting on 31 May, 2011, electing David Wahl as president and Freddy Inzlicht as vice president. Appointments to the executive board are Charles Cyto, Shlomo Hoffman, Michel Schonfeld and Michael Vaughan, who also serves as Secretary-General of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB).

WFDB deplores breakdown of KP talks in Kinshasa, says impact on downstream of supply pipeline may be disastrous

June 27, 2011: Avi Paz, president of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB), said that the uncompromising positions taken by some Kimberley Process (KP) members and the ensuing lack of agreement regarding the future of rough diamond exports from the Marange region in Zimbabwe would be detrimental in particular to the downstream end of the diamond supply pipeline. Following the breakdown last week of the Kimberley Process Intersessional Meeting in Kinshasa, Paz said the impasse had the potential to hit the well-being of the entire, global diamond industry.

WFDB President Avi Paz optimistic about upcoming KP meeting in Congo, believes parties will agree on Marange diamond exports

June 16, 2011: Avi Paz, president of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB), is confident that participants at the Kimberley Process meeting to take place next week in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), will remove the barriers preventing the export of rough diamonds from the controversial Marange deposits.
